WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has publicly praised outgoing White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, describing her as an important member of his administration as she prepares to leave the position to spend more time with her family.
During a recent interview with Fox News correspondent Alexis McAdams, Trump addressed Leavitt’s upcoming departure and responded to questions about whether she could be replaced.
“Is Karoline Leavitt replaceable?” McAdams asked.
“No, she’s not. She really isn’t,” Trump replied, praising Leavitt’s performance and acknowledging her presence nearby.
Trump then added a lighthearted remark about Leavitt’s decision to prioritize her children.
“She actually likes her children more than she likes Trump. I’m very concerned about that,” he said jokingly.
The exchange highlighted the president’s public appreciation for Leavitt, who has become a prominent figure in the administration’s communications strategy.
Discussion of a Possible Replacement
McAdams also asked Trump whether he had someone in mind to take over the daily White House briefing.
In response, Trump jokingly suggested that McAdams herself could handle the position.
“You. How about you?” he said, before praising her work as a correspondent.
Trump’s comments came as attention turned toward the process of selecting Leavitt’s successor. However, his remarks did not amount to a formal announcement, and the administration had not publicly confirmed a replacement at the time of the exchange.
Leavitt’s Decision to Leave
Leavitt, who became one of the youngest individuals to serve as White House press secretary, announced that she would step away from the role to devote more time to her family.
She has two young children, and the demands of managing a high-profile government position alongside parenting have been a central factor in her decision.
Her departure is expected to prompt a transition within the White House communications team. The press secretary plays a key role in presenting administration policies, responding to reporters and communicating the president’s positions to the public.
The timing also places the selection process within a politically significant period, as both parties prepare for the 2026 midterm elections.
Alina Habba Mentioned in Succession Speculation
Among the names discussed in connection with the vacancy is Alina Habba, a New Jersey attorney who has worked closely with Trump.
Habba previously served as a member of Trump’s legal team and became a familiar figure during his legal battles in New York. She later served as acting U.S. attorney for New Jersey, although her appointment faced legal challenges.
Her name appearing in public speculation does not establish that she has been selected or formally considered by the White House.
A Transition Under Attention
Leavitt’s departure comes as the administration prepares for another period of intense political scrutiny. The next press secretary will inherit responsibility for representing the White House during major policy debates, congressional negotiations and the approaching midterm election season.
While Trump’s comments reflected his stated appreciation for Leavitt, the identity of her successor remained unconfirmed. The transition is likely to attract continued attention as the administration determines how its communications operation will move forward.
